Interlux is a high quality paints, varnishes and marine paints. Marine paints are tested and certified in the outdoor and marine environment.
Marine topside paint is intended to be applied to outdoor or marine surfaces (plywood, fiberglass, epoxy) above the waterline. However, Interlux paint and varnish can be submerged for several weeks without softening so it can be used for trailered boats, sail boats, canoes and kayaks since their are submerged for shorter periods of time.
Fully submerged boats that remain in the water in a dock or mooring require anti-fouling or gel coats that can be submerged permanently.
Marine varnishes are used to create a water resistant surface that is UV stable for long periods of time. Marine varnish is not itself a sealant, so we do recommend epoxy to seal wood surfaces before applying marine varnish for the best finish, waterproof and long lifespan.
Interlux primers are required when painting topside or below the waterline paints when switching from gel coated surfaces to polyurethane paints. The adhesive strength is superior when painting onto an appropriate primer.
