The Lightning 17 is a full sized sea/touring kayak for accommodating a larger or smaller paddlers or for long distance paddling. The notable differences between the Lightning 17 and the Solace is the four panel hull (3 chine) and single peak deck, which is more flat than the Solaces' contoured deck. The Lightning 17 has a 24 inch beam, the Solaces has a 22 inch beam. The Lighting will offer more stability in slow moving paddling and drifting, and has a 197 inch waterline which makes tracking effortless.
Below the waterline, the hull has a graphite coating (part of the kit) which makes it durable and rugged in rocky and shallow environments. All of our kits are fibreglassed outside and inside, which makes them very rigid and durable, making them capable of coastal and cold water.
This kayak is great for novice and experienced paddlers, and can be used for recreational leisure paddling as well as long touring and excursions. The maximum paddler height is around 6'3" and the maximum shoe size is Mens 12. For larger and taller paddlers we offer the Solace XL series.
