The 3M™ Particulate Filter 2091 is NIOSH approved for environments containing certain oil and non-oil based particles.
The 3M™ Particulate Filter 2091, P100 helps provide respiratory protection against exposure to lead, asbestos, cadmium, arsenic, and MDA. The filter is effective for concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) with half facepieces, or 50 times the PEL with quantitatively fit tested full facepieces. This filter helps protect against a wide range of oil and non-oil based particulate contaminants. 3M’s Advanced Electret Media (AEM) provides a comfortable lightweight, easy-breathing combination. The 3M™ Particulate Filter 2091 is commonly used for welding, brazing, torch cutting, metal pouring and soldering. The filter is both flame and water resistant. Industries where this filter is commonly used include agriculture, construction, general manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and primary metals.

HERE IS A QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE PROTECTION A MASK CAN PROVIDE
Through out the building, repairing, and creating process, we are exposed to a variety of things we do not want to breath in. The particles of sawdust from sanding. Paint that is being sprayed. Even the off gassing of resins and catalysts.
N95: Certified to take out 95% of dry particulates that pass through it. With all masks, a good fit is important. As they get wet the N95 looses its effectiveness. With this in mind do not work well on oily particulates, or after the moisture from your breathing has saturated it. Great for sanding and woodworking,
P100: Certified to take out 99.8% of particulates, and are oil proof. When this mask is well fitted, the oils in paints and varnishes are trapped, as well as more dry particulates. These filters cost a bit more, but offer a wider range of particulate protection.
OV or Organic Vapour: Certified to take out organic vapours. These filters have activated carbon to take out chemicals in the air. Coming in a sealed package, once opened the filter is working, even when not in use. An OV filter will have an opened shelf life, and after that time the protection is not guaranteed. These filters do not protect against particulates. Great for use where chemicals are open.
It is possible to combine protection. N95 filters can be put in front of an Organic Vapours filter with an adaptor. Or an integrated P100/OV filter cartridge can be purchased for your mask.
